Just had my hard drive wiped now i need help because my computer guys an idiot?

Ok. I just had my stupid computer guy wipe my hard drive and reload the os onto my hp pavilion a210y. We are giving it to my mentaly retarded aunt for christmas (not joking she literally is) so sound is pretty important. We bought a new monitor i have no idea what brand. The monitor has integrated speakers that work and im positive because we plugged it into our other computer and made sure it worked so basically the monitor works fine and i even plugged some stand alone speakers into the hp to make sure that the monitor wasnt just crazy. The speakers worked fine. Somebody please tell me what i should do. I'm pretty computer literate so yeah. Oh yea im not sure if it makes a difference but the os is xp home edition. please no stupid answers like wow use google because i dont have a bunch of time on my hands.
