Brother tried w/ Poss, CAN HE BE CONVICTED?

Bro pulled over in psgr seat of "friend's" vehicle. Cops searched car, found 100+ pills in psgr seat & took both in for questioning. He was aware that friend was drug dealer but was unaware he kept drugs in car. Not understanding seriousness of situation, both made the mistake of lying to cops & saying they were someone else's drugs when questioned together. Bro now being tried w/ Possession of Oxycodone, Heroin, Drug Trafficking & possibly Burglary. Friend only being tried w/ Possession of Oxycotton but claims he’ll fess up. Bro now afraid he won’t man up & our only proof (besides the fact that bro has no phone nor car) are txt msgs from several people in friend’s phone requesting pills. Only thing bro is guilty of is being an IDIOT! Scared to death friend will make bail, delete txt msgs then bro will have no proof. I’ve tried to contact his Public Defender but they keep telling me he has no permanent Public Defender, that it’s too soon and to call back on his next court date which is a month from now. I feel so helpless, all I do is cry and worry, can he be convicted and have to live with his friend’s actions? Can’t afford lawyer. Bro has juvi record, a couple felonies, friend's record is clean.
